Heartgard Plus Chewables for Dogs

Collection: Heartgard Plus Chewables for Dogs

HeartGard Plus Chewables for Dogs are a veterinarian-recommended heartworm preventive treatment that also controls various other worm infections. It is effective against immature stages of heartworm that are transmitted by mosquitoes. Additionally, it treats and controls three species of hookworms and two species of roundworms. This monthly treatment has antiparasitic and anthelmintic properties that work against mixed parasitic infections. It comes in a real beef flavor that makes it highly palatable for dogs. This monthly chew is one of the most recommended heartworm preventative treatments. It is safe and suitable for dogs of 6 weeks of age and older, as well as breeding and pregnant dogs.

How does it work? Heartgard Plus contains two active ingredients, Ivermectin and Pyrantel. It is an effective heartworm treatment for dogs that prevents heartworm disease by eliminating heartworm larvae and kills parasites by causing spastic muscle paralysis. These active chemicals control the way nerve impulses flow through the neurological system of the worm, causing the parasite to become paralyzed and eventually die.

It's essential to note that Heartgard Plus only prevents heartworm infection. Before administering any heartworm prevention product, you must first diagnose your dog for heartworm infection. If your dog has already been infected with heartworm, you should consult your veterinarian.

Here are the directions to follow:
- Heartworm testing is recommended before beginning treatment.
- Weigh your pet and choose the appropriate pack based on your dog's weight. (Refer to the dosage table below for details)
- Only remove a single chewable from the foil blister at a time.
- Place the rest of the chewables back in the box to store out of light.
- Give Heartgard Plus Chewable once a month on the same day of each month year-round.
- Heartgard Plus Chewable should not be swallowed whole.
- Chewables may be broken and fed to dogs as pieces or crumbled and mixed with food.
- Administer in a way that encourages your dog to chew instead of swallow.
- Ensure that your dog consumes the full dose, and then observe afterward to be sure none is rejected or lost. If any portion of the dose is lost, re-dose.
- To switch from another heartworm preventative to HEARTGARD Plus, administer this treatment within 30 days of the final dose of your dog's old preventative.
- If your dog goes more than 30 days without heartworm prevention, the efficacy of the ingredient Ivermectin may be lower. For this reason, the treatment should be administered monthly on the same day each month.
- If your dog's treatment is delayed by a few or several days, treat immediately and resume the recommended schedule to mitigate potential adult heartworm development.
